Wendell W. Webster
Wendell W. Webster is a member of Webster, Fredrickson, Correia & Puth in the firm's bankruptcy and commercial law practice. With respect to the firm's bankruptcy and business clients, Mr. Webster represents creditors as well as debtors in a variety of matters ranging from pre-bankruptcy workouts to financial reorganizations and bankruptcy litigation. In addition, Mr. Webster provides counseling and representation to individuals, businesses and governmental clients with respect to real estate and commercial transactions, business planning and commercial dispute resolution.
Since his appointment by the United States Trustee in 1994, Mr. Webster has served as one of five bankruptcy trustees responsible for the administration of all Chapter 7 bankruptcies filed in the District of Columbia. As a Chapter 7 trustee, Mr. Webster has been called upon to manage, operate and sell businesses as well as commercial assets, including commercial real estate, multi-family housing developments, restaurants, a motel, a halfway home for Federal prisoners and a telecommunications company. In addition to serving as a Chapter 7 Trustee, Mr. Webster has been appointed by the court to serve as trustee in Chapter 11 bankruptcy cases where the appointment of a trustee was necessary to preserve assets and protect creditors' collateral. Also, Mr. Webster has served as counsel to the Unsecured Creditors Committee in a Chapter 11 bankruptcy case involving a ponzi scheme accused of defrauding investors of cash investments in the amount of $70 million.
Currently, Mr. Webster is General Counsel to the Housing Authority of Prince George's County, Maryland, where he supervises and monitors all legal matters on behalf of the Authority, including the sale and development of real estate, land use & planning issues, public bond financing and commercial litigation. Mr. Webster has also served as counsel to the Public Service Commission of the District of Columbia. As counsel to the agency, Mr. Webster advised the Commission with respect to the regulation of electric and gas utility services in the District of Columbia and Maryland.
Mr. Webster is an Adjunct Professor of Law at Howard University Law School where he teaches Creditor's and Debtors' Rights.
Mr. Webster received his Juris Doctor degree, with honors, from Howard University School of Law, where he served as Editor-in-Chief of the Howard Law Journal, and his Master of Laws (LL.M.) from Harvard Law School, where he concentrated on business planning and financial reorganization. Following law school, Mr. Webster served as law clerk to the Honorable John Garrett Penn in the Superior Court of the District of Columbia. Prior to co-founding the law firm of Webster & Fredrickson in 1982, Mr. Webster practiced in the areas of real estate and commercial law at two Washington, DC law firms.
Mr. Webster has served as Adjunct Professor of Law at Howard University Law School where he taught Creditors' and Debtors' Rights. Mr. Webster has also taught Federal Taxation at Howard as well as the Columbus School of Law at Catholic University. Mr. Webster is Past President of the Washington bar Association, the oldest and largest minority bar association in the District of Columbia. Mr. Webster is admitted to the state and Federal bankruptcy bars of the District of Columbia and Maryland.
